Is there something you have been meaning to do but keep putting it off because you have doubts? If this sounds like you then you need to start by looking at what thoughts are holding you back. There are three main thoughts I hear people say when it comes to wanting to do something, so I thought I would look at these and give you a counter-response. This means you no longer will have these excuses to hold you back. You are welcome.
Now is not the right time.
2020 has likely been a bad year for most, this year has taken all our plans and thrown them out the window BUT this shouldn’t stop us. Look at it this way, if you were looking to go to a location but there was a roadblock you would take an alternative route, so do the same now. For example, I had plans to do more motivational talks this year, in fact, I had a few canceled due to the lockdown, rather than get upset I utilised social media and Instagram to do digital talks for the companies. In the same way, see how best you can work on something you had been planning on doing. Say you wanted to start a clothing label do all the research, find the manufacturers, reach out to them, etc. You can get started on something! If anything all the extra time you might now have this year, from not commuting or socialising, can be utilised to start working on your dream.
Remember there is no time like the present! Start today. Hold yourself accountable by setting goals – write down a date that you want to have done something by and work towards that.
What if…
What if it goes wrong, what if it fails. Urgh, throw those negative thoughts out your mind! If everyone thought like this no one would do anything or go anywhere. Also, we need to stop viewing failure as a negative thing. Instead, look at failure as a learning experience. If something doesn’t work, see why change it and try again! It’s better to have tried something then not tried something and always wonder what could have been. Just do it!!
Am I qualified?
Oh please. You are qualified. Remember there are plenty of people who go and do something without being qualified. Life is all about winging it and learning while you do something. The best way to get experience is to try things. So if there is a job you want to apply for, apply for it. If you want to start something, do it. Stop thinking you are not qualified. You most likely are! And if you are lacking experience, fill the gap – google it, get a book. Simple as.
What is something you really want to do? Go and write it down, make a plan and get started on it today! Remember, it is up to you to create the life you want and you can only do it by getting started. Get to work, sass!
