Control the Controllable

If there is something I have learned over the years it is you can’t change things that have happened or control certain situations. You can only control your reaction, anything outside of that is just a waste of your own energy.

Don’t get me wrong, we are all guilty of thinking about the past – I should have done this etc, or having a rant about things from time to time – but as I get older I realise that it’s not going to change anything. As Beyonce says when you look back on life all the dots connect! People come into your life to teach you something. You can’t go back in time and change things so why look to the past when the time could be better spent doing something to better your future self.

If you are wondering how you can get yourself out of the rut of focusing on the past or complaining about things, try this mini exercise…

  • Write down 5 things you are grateful for in your life right now. Anytime you feel negative, refer back to the list and counter those negative thoughts by adding to the list!
  • Write down the things you can control in your life e.g you want to be healthier but right now you may be thinking you can’t exercise because it’s cold outside and the gyms are closed. WRONG. You can workout from home – and you don’t need state of the art equipment to do this. There are plenty of youtube workout videos that you can do. You can change your diet and opt for a healthier meal option. Remember doing something is better than doing nothing!
  • For one day try not to moan about something. Instead when you feel like a rant coming on, find a solution to it or counter it with a positive thought. Once you have got through the day, try it the next day, and the next day, until it becomes a habit. Humans are creatures of comfort, the more you do something the more it becomes a habit.
  • Don’t overthink things. For example, someone hasn’t responded to your text – don’t start to think that they are ignoring you. Think they are busy and will respond in their own time. Or did someone make a rude comment to you? Ignore it, that’s their choice, you don’t need to take their negativity and bring it into your vibe.

Making the above tweaks to your day will improve your energy by a lot. The more positive you are, the more positive energy you will attract!

Remember don’t waste energy thinking about the past, or things out of your control. Put the energy into bettering yourself and achieving your sassy goals. Your future self will thank you!
